The VFR Czech project is focused on the development of Czech Republic sceneries and add-ons for X-Plane. The main target is to set common development rules and subsequent management and maintenance of the given data set. In this project the only one data set is kept updated for entire Czech Republic.
Project contains several parts. Versions numbering of all the issued data packages following the release dates. Airports are not included in this project as we suppose those will be developed as single packages.
1. – R2 Objects Library
Library of 3D objects for Czech Rep. is a base plate for all other sceneries and as such it is mandatory to install it. The goal is obvious – to create all necessary objects typical for the Czech landscape. Library is (and will be) under continuous development and in addition to the creation of further variants of existing objects there will be also completely new objects added, too. Currently, the development of this package is pretty “quiet” as the internal structure of it is being modified.
2. – 3D Terrain CZ
The 3D terrain package is currently available in a ‘beta’ release and it is not completed for the entire Czech Republic (see the blue icon on the coverage map). Terrain data are taken from the same source as the default X-Plane terrain (SRTM v4) but it is modified to get bit more real looking lakes and rivers. The aim is to get it match to the orthophoto scenery and also to harmonize it with local airports.
3. – 3D Forests CZ
These data mainly come from the Open Street Map source. It is intentionally separated from the objects due to huge amount of data. These data pretty well match the orthophoto scenery, but even though there is yet necessary to manually modify them. As the data conversion is quite complicated and time consuming, it will take a while all data will be completed. Current status is shown by the green icon on the coverage map.
4. – Roads & Railways CZ
This package is generated from the OSM data too. It includes also the high-voltage power lines as well as some other stuff like trains and trams. Actually, this is a pre-release version matching the default terrain and is not modified at all. So, there are bugs we know about (mainly bridges). In parallel a new version of this package is created matching the new terrain and will replace the former one. That new, unfinished version is available too.
5. – 3D objects CZ
These are overlay sceneries which contain all the manually entered objects but forests. They are available in packages prepared by each author who is also responsible for content and could update it at any time. Packages could include library objects as well as uniquely developed 3D objects provided by author.
6. – Autogen CZ
The autogen is created using Ben’s OSM2XP tool. This is yet a subject of change as the flat roofs could not be such often seen in the Czech Republic – majority of our houses has sloped roofs. We expect X-Plane 10 will bring lot of improvements in this area and this package will then be replaced by more sophisticated technology. On the other hand for now it fits quite well to other parts of the VFR CZ projects so whose hardware allow it – enjoy

Installation and data structure
Because the X-Plane loads sceneries following the alphabet order, we set fixed structure for naming of certain parts. It is possible it will be changed in future, but after more then a year of the operation it seems to be well-designed.
Installation:
Generally the install is just unzipping the package to the X-Plane/Custom Scenery (while preserving the inner folder structure). Anyway, for every package there’s an installation descritpion attached. It is highly recomended to remove previous version and after that place the new one as the inner structure could change time to time.
Support:
If you’ve got any questions do not hesitate to come at forum.xplane.cz and place your question in English or German. We will try to answer you soon. Anyway, please bear in mind, the project‘s packages are free and it was created and is maintained in the authors‘ free time and so it is possible the answer could take bit longer then your patience’s endurance . As an apology please take kind regards from happy authors‘ families ;o)
Terms of use:
All the packages are free to use. Any part of the project must not be further distributed unless it is confirmed by author. To get in touch with an author, please go to our forum and put your request (even in English) and the responsible guy will contact you.
